Bharatanatyam

Bharatanatyam

Bharatanatyam is one of India's oldest classical dance forms, born in the temples of Tamil Nadu as a living offering to the divine rather than a stage performance. Rooted in the Nāṭya Śāstra and once carried by devadāsīs as a form of embodied prayer, it weaves precise footwork, codified hand gestures (mudras), and rich facial expression (abhinaya) into a sacred language of movement that tells stories of Shiva, Krishna, Devi, and the epics while turning the dancer's body itself into a moving temple.
